We provide the full range of treatment services needed to rehabilitate small birds and mammals. We assist the public with issues relating to wildlife; and promote knowledge and appreciation of wild animals and the habitats they depend on for survival. Each animal is treated as an individual and is provided with whatever it needs to be successful in its natural habitat upon release.
Animals are fed specially formulated diets to meet their nutritional needs and provided with the necessary medical care to heal their injuries. All animals are carefully handled to maintain their fear of humans so they can be released back to the wild. We work with local veterinarians to obtain quality medical assessments and care for the animals as they recover from injuries. Almost all of the animals we receive are in need of care due to human interaction. Whether it is our cars, cats, dogs, windows, power lines, or fences, humans have a huge impact on the wildlife around us. At LSWR, we are merely balancing the scales and giving these animals the second chance they deserve. We take in an average of 2000 animals a year, with no stable government funding. We rely on grants, donations and fundraising efforts to make ends meet and provide for the wildlife.
We are grateful to hundreds of individuals who put in the time, energy and compassion to bring us these animals. Our philosophy is based upon the need to support this compassion in humans so that all creatures on the planet can have a future here. The planet is a complex web, and we are all part of this ecosystem, relying on each and every species to keep the rest of us alive and healthy. LSWR is part of the climate crisis solution - one animal at a time.
