American Saddlebred Legacy Foundation (ASLF)
Our Mission
The American Saddlebred Legacy Foundation is a proactive resource for owners, trainers, and breeders of the American Saddlebred horse to repurpose them to alternative disciplines as an alternative to costly rescue and rehabilitation later.
About Us
The American Saddlebred Legacy Foundation ("ASLF") is located in Smithfield, Kentucky, on 48 acres near the Henry/Oldham County line. We currently intake horses on a case by case basis from the public, based on greatest need. In addition, we do personally attend auctions to document prices and outbid brokers directly for horses. This allows us to understand real prices, and help educate our donors on the unregulated broker-owned cycles that currently exist.
When we attend auctions and purchase horses, pending they are healthy enough, we will transport them to our farm, where we personally quarantine them and then evaluate them. This allows us to save money, ensure that our donor's dollars are being used efficiently and that the care is individualized for each horse based on its current needs.
We are not a sanctuary. However, we do have some horses that, due to no fault of their own, we have decided to provide a lifetime commitment to. Our goal is rehabilitate behavioral, mental, and physical and restore these horses so they are able to go on to have successful lives in new homes.
We can provide basic veterinary care. However, we do not delay when it comes to severe injuries, especially ones related to the eyes. We have a strong network of multiple vets and farriers who work with us based on every horse's individual needs.
