Save the Strays Dominican Republic
Our Mission
Save the Strays DR works to create lasting change for animals across the Dominican Republic by strengthening and supporting existing rescues, shelters, and nonprofit organizations through fundraising, resources, partnerships, and coordination.
We advocate for greater government and corporate investment in animal welfare, including support from the tourism and hospitality sectors, because caring for animals is a shared responsibility and an important reflection of the Dominican Republic as a compassionate, responsible, and caring country.
Together, we are building a stronger animal-welfare network to reduce the population through TNR- Massive spay clinics, build systems and infrastructure, shelters, clinics and emergency services to care for the 1 million+ strays across the island.

About Us
Our Mission
Save the Strays is dedicated to creating lasting change for animals throughout the Dominican Republic by strengthening the organizations already doing the work, mobilizing resources, and advocating for the government, businesses, and communities to take an active role in animal welfare.
We believe that no single rescue, nonprofit, or individual can solve the country's animal-welfare challenges alone. Across the Dominican Republic, dedicated rescuers, shelters, veterinarians, volunteers, and nonprofit organizations are working every day to save and care for animals in need. Save the Strays exists to support and strengthen this network.
We will help existing rescues, shelters, and nonprofit organizations raise funds, access resources, coordinate efforts, build partnerships, and increase their capacity to help more animals. By connecting organizations with donors, corporations, volunteers, veterinary resources, supplies, and other forms of support, we can amplify the impact of the people already working on the front lines.
Advocating for Investment in Animal Welfare
A sustainable solution requires more than private donations. Animal welfare must become a shared responsibility between government, the private sector, nonprofit organizations, and communities.
Save the Strays will advocate for increased government funding, public programs, and institutional support for animal welfare throughout the Dominican Republic. We will also work to engage major corporations and industries—including the tourism sector, hotels, hospitality businesses, and other companies whose success is closely connected to the country's communities and environment.
We believe corporations have an important opportunity to invest in the communities in which they operate. Supporting animal welfare initiatives can provide meaningful assistance to local rescues and nonprofits while helping create cleaner, safer, more humane communities for both residents and visitors.
Animal Welfare & the Dominican Republic's Image
The Dominican Republic welcomes millions of visitors each year, and tourism is an important part of the country's identity and economy. How a country treats its animals is also a reflection of its communities, values, and commitment to responsible tourism.
Save the Strays advocates for a Dominican Republic where visitors can see that animal welfare is taken seriously—not only by compassionate individuals and private rescuers, but through meaningful participation from government institutions, businesses, hotels, tourism leaders, and communities.
Our goal is to help build a national culture in which caring for animals is recognized as a responsibility shared by society as a whole. By investing in humane animal-welfare programs, supporting the organizations already doing the work, and advocating for sustainable government and corporate involvement, we can create measurable improvements for animals while strengthening the image of the Dominican Republic as a compassionate, responsible, and caring destination.
Our Vision
We envision a Dominican Republic where no rescue organization has to fight alone, where government and businesses recognize their role in protecting animals, where nonprofit organizations have the resources to succeed, and where the humane treatment of animals is part of the country's identity.
We are not simply trying to rescue more animals.
We are working to build the system that makes fewer animals need to be rescued in the first place.
