Our Mission

Our mission is simple. Rescue, rehab and release as many native animals as we can while also educating the community we live in on how to co-exist peacefully with the animals that call South Florida home. We also provide a permanent home to exotic animals that have been discarded by society and work with the state and federal government to ensure that these animals have a safe place to live out the rest of their lives with dignity and peace.

About Us

We are the Everglades Outpost Wildlife Sanctuary. A non-profit, 501(c )(3) wildlife rescue and rehabilitation facility located in Homestead, FL. We were first established in 1991 by Bob Freer and his wife Barbara. Upon retiring, Bob has passed the torch to our new directors and animal curators Jeffry and Martha Rivera.

Though our mission is simple; rescue wildlife, the work that goes on behind the scenes to carry on our cause is far more complex. We are licensed both federally and by the state, working closely with both to rescue wildlife as small as orphaned raccoons that Miami Dade County Animal Services cannot respond to and wildlife as large as black bears and tigers that FWC has confiscated from illegal situations. We receive and respond to hundreds of wildlife rescue calls made by concerned civilians who were referred to us by the county all while caring for over 100 permanent residents that reside at our sanctuary. We also encourage community engagement and education by offering on and off site educational presentations and working closely with programs like Creative Action and the Mexican American Council, who provide the youth with on the job training.

Operating our sanctuary yearly costs us approximately $150,000.00 not including emergency cases. However we are not funded by the state or Miami Dade County.

The mission of ReelTime Animal Rescue is to promote animal wellness, provide education, and establish a funding channel for caregivers and organizations on the front lines of animal cruelty, wildlife rehabilitation and placement. Everglades Outpost Wildlife Sanctuary receives 100% of the funds you donate to our organization via our direct donation link here:
